A professional staff member may request compensation for additional credit hours earned
according to the Master Contract. To be eligible to request compensation, staff must

1. hold a valid Indiana teaching, school services, or administrative license pertinent to the
position at the time of the request, and
2. unless such credits were previously recognized by the Corporation for salary
placement, additional credits must have been obtained after the date of initial employment
in a certified position with West Lafayette Community School Corporation, and
3. additional credits and degrees earned must be relevant to the content area and/or
pedagogical area. Relevance shall be determined by the Superintendent or the Superintendent’s designee, and
4. additional credits and degrees must be graduate level (Master’s or higher), and
5. additional credits and degrees must be earned from accredited U.S. institutions of
higher education or must be evaluated for degree equivalency by the Indiana
Department of Education or another professional credential evaluation agency.

Salary advancements shall be granted according to the Master Contract.

A professional staff member who expects to complete the requirements to advance to a higher
salary classification for the ensuing school year shall notify the Superintendent in writing before July
1st.

Salary advancements shall be effective only at the beginning of the fall semester after additional
credits were obtained or degree conferred and only for work completed starting with and after the
first staff day of fall semester. Said work must be verified by an official transcript, or specified
memorandum, filed in the Superintendent's office on or before the first day of school. If, through no
fault of the teacher, an official transcript is not available by the first day of school, the
Superintendent must be notified in writing by that date. The necessary adjustments to the contract
and pay will be completed retroactively upon receipt of the official transcript.
